Fuel smell under hood when I was pulling the heads off

Default Fuel smell under hood when I was pulling the heads off
When I popped the hood on my 2001 D2 to start a head gasket job I noticed a distinct smell of Raw Gasoline. Is there a common source for this such and injector seals/orings or fuel rail seals/gaskets?

could be the fuel rail connection......i never get the fuel smell when i open the hood...i only get the smell of my money burning up....
