Galvanised chassis/frame
If you are thinking of long term ownership this may help. Don't know the prices but it is a lot of work to install and requires a corner post lifter or overhead crane.

I went on a rant on Dweb about this topic. I had a completely rust free frame/truck/engine/suspension/t-case/axles/ and a slew of other parts...all for free. And no one in the rust belt went for it. blows my mind. So many people whining about shipping costs. Literally would have been a 1000 or less to almost anywhere in the lower 48. But these frames are going for 5k...and people are buying them. You can by 2 D2s here rust free running and driving for that.

Buying a second hand D2 frame is something I personally am considering and have entertained discussion over possible investment on one from a fellow member. But he lives in WA and progress has been delayed.
I will however point out afew of my concerns regarding used frames. The first being that not all frame corrosion is easily visiable. It it possible however unlikely that corrosion can take form from within a otherwise solid frame. Even in regions where salt is not used on roads, other factors can contribute to frame corrosion. A used frame does not include a "rust free guarantee" and neither is it galvanized. My situation is complicated due in part to the fact that my primary truck has a new block and ive replaced to many parts on the truck, so simply swapping over the engine ane ALL the new **** from my truck to a rust free donor would still be very costly. A rolling chassis already striped and ready for a swap would be a better alternative if one could be sourced. But a new galv frame with peace of mind is the prefered route when longevity is considered.

X1 ............ couldn't agree more. If you want a trouble and corrosion free frame to outlast your D2 and you are intending keeping the truck 'ad infinitum' it's worth investing in the frame/chassis. There are 2 UK major makes of galvanised chassis and they sell very competitively in the UK. My knowledge of frames/chassis is they sometimes look good externally but they do regularly rot from the inside out especially after long term offroading or salty highways. Problem is it is a major task swapping out the chassis and you need a large space and good garage equipment or lifting gear.
Could you please provide more information on the two makes of D2 frames in the UK? I want to comare prices. Having already purchased a block from the UK among other things, Ive noticed that sometimes you can buy LR parts from the UK and have them shipped for cheaper than the retail of same parts here in the states. Ironic really. If frames in the UK cost less shipped than a new frame sourced here in the states than Id be happy to give the UK my bussiness yet again.
Ive heard that even if you take a used frame and pay to have it galvanized, any preexisting corrosion on the inside of the frame will still continue to expand and rot the frame from the inside.
Regarding your initial link. No retail price is listed for the frame, so I attempted to fill out the parts inquiry form but I guess the web page does not like the format of my email address. Could you be so kind to try filling out the form yourself and letting us know how much the frame retails and any possible shipping quotes to the US? I would greatly appreciate it.
Yes RN has carried the rear section for afew years now. Unfortunately not all frames rust in the same areas. My frame is rotting up front next to the cats and more so at the middle point of the frame, next to the center most muffler. The rear end appears to be holding up much better than other D2's. But even replacing a entire section of the frame might only serve as a bandaid fix for a more complex problem. If corrosion has taken hold over the rear section of the frame, its resonable to assume other areas on the frame as rotting as well.
Yes. I read the rear was the worst area usually but I know there's exceptions. Being in California this isn't much of a problem. I've had 1 D2, 2 D1's all California cars pretty rust free. Same with the 99 RR I currently have.
