Garage door opener

My homelink in my '99 D2 was non-functional, I suspect that it was fried by water ingress. At any rate I ended up replacing the whole mirror (which was cracked) with a later year model which has the homelink buttons integrated into the mirror. I followed the homelink programming sequence and it now works great, of course, now I have some vestigial homelink buttons but I'll figure out what to do with that space later.

I tried to set up Homelink and it did not work. I ended up doing this MyQ unit as an alternate. The advantage is the whole family can use it with their phone. Plus, my wife and I (as co-owners) can monitor remotely if the door is left open/closed... as well as control the door's opening/closing remotely. Great for CAN$39 as long as you have a comatible garage opener (my was already 15 years old). Plus, we do not have to worry about getting our car stolen and someone having Homelink access to our house.

I finially figured it out!! To program the cars garage door opener turn the key to accessory mode, now hold down the outter two buttons until the light rapidly flashes (to clear anything previous), release those buttons and using the remotee push the garage door opener button and the button on the car you want to program, hold those both until the light rapidly flashes. Once the light rapidly flashes release everything and go on the opener itself and push the learn button, then go back in the car and push the programed button multiple times until it works

I don't have automatic openers on my garage doors however I inadvertently noticed that when I was pressing the buttons on my rear view mirror my home automation software was picking up the RF signal. Since I have a ZWave front door lock I programmed the Homeautomation PC to watch for the signal from the Disco, and then unlock the door and turn on some lights when I pull in the driveway and press the button on the rearview.. I had to jump through a few hoops to train the rearview to learn and then spit out a particular signal which I had loaded onto a separate keyfob that came with the home automation hardware, but the frequency was the same and it works like a champ. fxytion has the process correct and it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. It also sends me a text message whenever activated and while I'm not too worried about any nefarious activity, I'll at least be aware if it's occurring and the cameras can take over from there.
