hahahaha, "Tornado fuel saver" DO NOT BOTHER. WASTE OF MONEY. OMG if you think this will help out, send me some cash for this info (keep your foot out of the pedal) that will save you more fuel than the Tornado. Synthetic oil is not gonna save you a noticeable amount of fuel, not even over a year. the 4000 mile oil change will save you a few because you will change it a little less often over the year, but you will be paying twice as much for oil over the dino oil. I do recomend the synthetic oil though @ 4k intervals. Premium gas won't do much at all, run the lowest octane you can safely get away with.

Tornado doesn't do a thing

Don't like the K&N filters, as grit gets through them and causes problems. Plus, if you get too much oil, you foul the MAF.

Synthetic will give mild improvement (+1 MPG), but is excellent for the engine overall. I wouldn't use anything other than it.

Oil Changes at 3000-4000 are normal. No improvement in MPG.

I only run premium. It doesn't improve mileage, but will prevent engine knock. Along with other maladies the discos are prone to.

I do use LUCAS additive. I have seen a 1.5-2.5 MPG improvement. Plus, the engine seems to runs smoother. Your results may vary.

Things I would do to help with gas mileage:

proper tire inflation
replace spark plugs and wires every 30,000 miles.
IF you have a distributor style system, check for cracks and replace the rotating element every 30k

The most over looked thing is the gear boxs I don't know how much
change in mpg but I use synthetic 80w90.
The best way to get better mpgs is low roll resistance tires,
the Michelin LTX M&S from Sears it still has good off road ability, load range C.
I changed my spark plugs and tried NGK plugs and lost mpgs so
stick with oem Champion RN11YCC ,Disco's I#.
You can do a cat-back system that has helped mine.
If you are going to keep your Rover for along time (I'am going to)
synthetic oil will help do that.
With premium fuel you will not have to worry about the inaudible knock
or dropping a cly/sleeve.

What's the highest MPG that one can get with a Discovery 1
with proper upkeep
My mom's has a 2000
land rover discovery series 2 and her truck gets like 18-20 MPG which to me is good for a 4900 lbs vehicle
mine gets like 12-15 and weighs less
I heard of discovery 1's getting like 18-20 MPG
what should i do
(Note) I don't gas it hard I drive it cool.

The window sticker on my 96 said 14 city 16 hwy.
I get 12.5mpg or so in town and 16 or17 mpg hwy.
I have a ARB frt bumper a Warn 9000 winch and have BFG 245-75/16
that are heavy 55lbs each. The tires hurt me in town and help hwy and
off road. With skid plates, bumper, winch diff guards all that adds weight
so I take a hit in town, out on the road it does not make that much difference.
My brother has a 98 and gets about 18 to 19 hwy but his is stock but for O.M.E.
springs he has standard size tires the lot his is used for ski trips and the like.
Land Rovers are gas hogs its not pretty at pump but everything else is.

I know that oxygenated fuel like we have in Dallas will hurt mpg's.
Over the weekend I drove in to a 30 mph wind with gusts to 38mph
with the oxg-fuel and got 13.8mpg. On the drive back no wind tail or other
wise with fuel that was not oxygenated I got 17.9mpg and was driving a little
faster.
