I would've just changed the oil with good oil and filter at the time of the head job. Why keep an old dirty filter full of old oil and introduce that to a nice new set of heads. Did someone advise to wait or something? If it was me I would've already done it.

Should have flushed your engine after the job was done to get rid of any stray dirt and/or gasket material before adding fresh oil and filter.

That's overkill and not at all necessary.

After I did my head gaskets I flushed my coolant and refilled the PAS fluid. I ran the truck for about 10 minutes with the oil that was in there (2 week old mobil 1 unfortunately) and bled the power steering lines (and let the PB blaster and WD 40 burn off the exhaust manifold and engine). Then I changed the oil and filter to Autozone dino oil and a Fram filter ($25 total) and drove for about 100 miles and then did an oil change to my regular oil and filter.

Probably overkill but after spending 3 days doing that job I wanted to do it correctly.

Your entitled to your opinion. That old gasket material gets everywhere so I would flush the block out before bolting everything back together and adding fresh oil and filter etc. I'm not talking about doing an ATF flush.

Not sure why you are slow driving it and why you haven't done a proper oil change but do it Yesterday, why are you waiting.

Your making this way too complicated. Mike is telling you to change your oil and filter with the mobil 1 oil and hp-3001 filter. Why are you waiting?
