Default Gear Ratio's and axel serial numbers

Does anybody know how to tell what my gear ratios would be on my 1996 Disco SE. And what my Axel serial numbers might be found.

Your axles don't have serial numbers and you have a standard 3:54 gear ratio.
What are you asking for out of curiosity?

How are you getting prices from, don't forget the HD axles for the rear diff, Detroits, and I have one, love to eat up standard axles. Are you going to gears also?
Bill at Great Basins Rovers is the main didtributor of gears, True Trac's and axles for Rovers in the US and is the only place you should be looking.
Do you have anyone to set up the diffs when you install them, if not talk to him about buying 3rd. members already set up with a Detroit and a True Trac, may find this cheaper the paying a shop $300 plus per axle to do the work.

There is a VIN on the the axles (DII), but it's more for vehicle theft and such. Most cars have a few of them hidden on various parts under the car/truck.

I don't believe there was ever a vin number stamped on any axles.
Have you talked to Bill at Great Basins Rovers yet, he will bee your best place to go.

All of the axels do have a number stamped on the housing and its not a VIN # , all are located on the tube and usually cant be read without scraping or sanding , even the dealer cant order diffs without that onfo. most numbers are located on the diff side shorter tube.

All axles and diff parts can be ordered without any number, the only thing that should be verified is the spline count on the axles, past the the diff, ring and pinion are all the same.
In all the years I was a service managre with Rover we nevere verified and numbers on either the tube or axle.
