Default Getting a Disco....AGAIN.

I first bought a disco out of lack of finace. I was a total Toyota Land Cruiser man as having worked as a professional desert safai guide we used L/C's and boy we did wheel them pretty hard, specially if there were some nice tourist chicks with us

But then quit and needed a 4x4 but could not afford a toyota or a nissan. And the only full size 4x4 seemed to be a Discovery and honestly thought they were ghay until then. But went ahead and got a high milage 96 FXI dunno what that translates to in SE but was a bit above basic. Auto, no sunroofs, leather but did have roof rails.

And that was the start of the Land Rover Madness. I instantly fell in love with it .Although I was used to driving the latest model company L/C's but my old 96 beater felt better and the V8 with the CDL preformed amazingly offroad. I quickly went head and got a OME 2" lift kit got a fabricated a custom steel bumper out of an old ARB L/C one.

But then just for fun I but it up for a local auction website and was amazed at the price I was being offered, a lot more than I had bought it back for around 3 years back. And that time I was wheeling much so thought oh well and sold it.

I instantly started to miss it and even asked the new owner after a month or so If I could have it back but apparently he was in love with it too.

In the 3 years I had it the thing did not ask a single $ of maintance from me other than the regular consuambles and never left me stranded on the roadside. Only thing I ever replaced out of the ordinary was the dounut rubber isolator on the rear prop shaft.

To satify me wheelin needs and also wife got a job far away needed another car and went looking for a Range rover classic or disco and out of some turn of events, mostly becuase it was a very cheap and well kept with a lot of dealer extras worth quite some $$$$ I ended up with a 01 jeep cherokee.

Right off from the begining I didn't like the small cabin, the rear boot of the disco was bigger than the whole interior. The engine was very powerfull and performed amazing on the sand dunes here basically cuz of its power to weight ratio. But had serious overheating issues and left me stranded a couple of times on the road side. Well after spending some bucks in the 3 tmonths I've had it ( more than I spent in three years with the disco )a XJ fan made me an offer I cudn't refuse, actually would be the biggest *** if I did.

So almost having sold the XJ, I am on the look out for a Disco again yeeeehhh ! Was thinking maybe to I'll get a series II this time but after test driving a few I like the drive feel of a series I much better than the II and plus the II feels more slugish than the I also the three amigos and all the other electrickery is a concern, Not to say I can't handle this as I also own a 96 Range Rover autobiography with each and every bell and whistle Land Rover ever tought of including a factory fitted VCR and headrest LCD's a huge deal in 96.

But I have looked at this 1998 Disco which has a big aniversary sticker in gold on the rear quarter panel. But other than that it is basic. Can't see a sigle bit of extra bob on it. I forgot to check during the test drive if it even has tweeters ?. 104 miles. Other than the play in the steering everything feels solid even the brakes don't feel spongy a first for a disco and was staring to wonder if it a Land Rover in the first place since it doesn't have any leaks ?

Last minute a twist in the story takes place, there is this 1998 Black Disco a company excutive car with only 50k on it and basically are planing to get rid of it and are asking silly money for it, but say it has a overheating issue and I have calculated even if I skim the heads and redo the cooling system it will still cost me below market price will go and see it tommorow

Well I have done a lot of blabbing for today will post pics of any new ride I get

Cheers

DD
