Default Getting started on my 03 DII

Well, I posted as a new member a few days ago. Since then i have been accumulating parts to work it over this long holiday weekend coming up. I have a heated shop and every tool you can name. My Discovery came to me unintentionally a couple weeks ago. I have owned over 60 jeeps; have done most of the big name Colorado trails; never get in the mud-I hate mud; and have a manufacturing engineer background. I can wrench with most, but i will admittedly have questions. I have read 8 bazillion posts on here since I bought it. I also bought and read "enjoying your land rover on a budget" cover to cover one night. My Disco is as follows:

2003 land Rover Discovery II SE
111,000 miles
Java Black
Has spare tire cover indicating it came from San Antonio
Has SAI
Has ACE
Has Self Leveling Rear
No indication of prior head gaskets, and no maintenance records available
Everything works as it should except sunroofs, which I submit just need the motors removed, cleaned and repacked.
Some broken plastic-front bumper cover, rear bumper cover, and rear hatch latch cover / light (I need that if you have one)
No rust on body or frame, and not beat up. Interior is very nice as well.
Runs great but does throw misfire codes regularly

So far, I have the following plans and parts lined up:

Coil pack relocation. I have new coil packs coming, new Kingsborne wires on the way, and NGK Iridium plugs on hand. I will remove Upper manifold. Huge hands.
Inline thermostat. Everything will be here before Friday and I will get rid of the orange coolant at that time
2.5" lift. Spacer lift, rear installed last night-simple. Will do front after I'm done under the hood.
Valve cover gaskets. New rubber ones on hand
Outer tie rod end (the replaceable one)
Oil changed and new Wix filter installed (Wix is owned by the company I used to work for)
Will do permanent 3 Amigos fix to modulator although I do not have them
Plan to install 255-70-18 tires as that is what everyone who buys a new jeep is removing and wants rid of
When installing the lift I see I'm due for new rotors and pads, so they are on the way
Power steering pump or line is leaking and i am looking at 92 Chevy S-10 2.5 liter pump option-info says it will bolt on

What else do you long time enthusiasts see me needing to do? i want to make a reliable 3rd vehicle out of it, weekend trail rig and ice cream getter. And then I will probably sell it and start on another project.

Buy something to monitor your temps
I wouldn’t touch the 3 amigos thing I would leave that until if it fails

sounds like you did your homework
good luck

Maybe a build thread , would be cool to see the transformation, and when it’s done and you eventually sell it maybe the buyer might be a enthusiast and come across this post

You can call any dealer and they will tell you every service it has had from any dealer anywhere just from the VIN...

I think you missed the critical PCV mod, that will solve all oil leak problems as well as prolong the valvetrain life. I also recommend replacing all cooling hoses and the critical plastic coolant lines with ATF rated hoses - be very careful with the hose nipple on the radiator. The hoses spring leaks with age and will be the cause of coolant loss and unexpected overheating on long drives. The coolant bottles also tend to spring leaks with age, your choice as to whether to replace pre-emptively. Make sure the front driveshaft has zerks on all u-joints and either keep a wicked close eye on it or replace pre-emptively. If you lose a joint you will lose the trans and transfer case - guaranteed (lots of threads on that failure). At 111k you are due for a water pump soon, might want to get to it before it gets to you and while you have the coolant out. Idler pulley bearings and power steering pump bearings will eventually wear out, but they will give you lots of warning with plenty of noise. Use the door locks as little as possible, the brushes wear out in the motors. You might consider popping the doors off and greasing the window motor tracks - if you do you will likely never have a window problem and if you don't you are guaranteed to. I would recommend pulling the headliner to do the sunroof motors - if the sunroof pan drains are still intact you will want to silicone the hell out of them so they don't start leaking/break - seal the corner plastic pieces, examine the pans closely and you will find several gaps were they will leak if you don't seal the with silicone. I actually recommend driving it with the headliner out for a couple weeks and seal every leak you can find/see. Pop the emblem out of the tail door latch and lube the latch with some rust preventative lubricant, I like chain wax.

If you are going to drive on salted roads you may want to treat the frame with your choice of rust preventative.

Good luck, sounds like a nice truck!

I WISH! Never had a dealer willing to do this, if you have one please share.

I'd focus on the misfires before putting any money into it. Hopefully and probably just plugs and wires, but if you landed a cracked block/liner issue disco, you're going to do a lot of work just to be faced with the scrap or replace motor question. Not to scare you off.. just smart triage is all.

Well the intake manifold is off, coil pack and bracket are off, and plug wires all labeled and removed as well. Scariest part was popping that aluminum upper manifold loose. I'm reasonably sure it has been off before. I hope someone did head gaskets! I'm finding lots of little fasteners either not reinstalled or half *** put back. One SAI manifold only had one nut on the bracket to the intake, oil dipstick tube bolt was missing, and bolt for coolant tube where coil relocation support bracket goes was missing.
Rockauto got my rotors to me before the weekend, but not my pads or the upper manifold gasket. I'll put rotors on and slip pads in Tuesday. I have the back on jackstands which pushes the front end down for this coil work. Once they are relocated, I'll do the front lift.
I'm also doing the inline thermostat mod. I have everything for that, but wow, after looking down at the thermostat and all those hoses on the lower end, I'm not convinced I know what I'm doing there yet. If anyone has a good pic or description of what goes where Id appreciate it.
Also, does the self leveling stuff that appears to attach to the rear sway bar need any adjustment now that I've lifted it 2.5"?
