Getting Wet
Well, the trail last night was much deeper than it has been all year. Got a bit overenthusiastic coming back through some fairly deep (over 35") water and managed to fill the airbox with mud and water.
Looks like it's time for a snorkle.

Well, the plastic bubbles on the intake pipe from the airbox got water into them, good thing it was loose enough to pull off and flip over. If I keep those things on there (I was told they're for intake noise, do they do anything else?) I'll be gluing in a petcock so I can drain them if anything manages to get in there again.
Otherwise just the really wet filter, good thing I had a K&N though I was able to just shake it out for a few minutes drop it back in and go. If it was a paper I'd have had to run with a muddy intake and no filter.

So the water was over the hood? Or was itjust over the headlights?
I am going to get my tape measure out and go measure but with the nose wake, what was the water line on the truck?

It wasn't high enough for the ARB aux lamps to get submerged but the main lamps did 'dim' out due to wake. The main reason I got water in though was the lack of an inner fender on that side, which I was re-mounting but didn't have the right hardware and had to wait until today to finish.
OK, good to know. We go "wading" every spring when the river floods. The last time we did it we still had the Montero and the water was 3/4 of the way up the doors.
This spring ('08) will be the first time with the Disco. It didnt flood this year because of the drought.

If that would have been a gas motor someone would have had
to pull youout as the V8's hate water.
I wish I had a diesel LR.
As long as you are moving and do not stop the water shouldnt enter anything that isint under the truck. So your fuse box on the fender well under the hood should be fine. It is water resistant NOT water proof. As long as it is closed.
The trick to wading is to enter slow, speed up until you get a small bow wake and then hold that speed. If you start to slow down then give it more gas. If you enter the water to fast then you flood the engine.
For extra precaution you can bungy a tarp across the grill to keep water from under the hood. As long as you are moving there will be a cavity under the front of the truck and water will not enter from below. And the water hitting the grill will go over the hood so your engine and electrics will be safe from water egress.
Axles are another story.
Land Rover USED to post this info on there web site years ago, but when they went mainstream they pulled the off-road specs of their trucks.
They even told you what to do if you drowned the engine! Pull the plugs, crank the engine over to pump out the water, reinstall the plugs.
Now they only want you to go to the mall. Sell outs.
