Ghost in the Machine?

Ghost in the Machine?
This is a really weird one, and I'm just hoping the jungle ain't haunted, but I would really be grateful for some assistance here... I am an old Landie fan and expert off-roader from way back (military involvement) and in my dotage, have recently acquired a very nice Series 1 Discovery (1997 Model) in extremely good condition, and less than 40,000 miles on the clock (60k kms).
Now here's the thing...Without any prior warning or fiddling on my part, the rear wiper no longer wipes (but the water squirter does), the red light around the ignition key is now off, interior courtesy lights no longer come on on door opening/closing (although they can be switched on), and the windscreen intermittent wiper is also u/s (although speeds I and II can still be selected and working). Squirter works, but wipers do not activate. The audio alarms (bing-bong for seatbelts, key-in-ignition, lights-still-on etc) are also no longer active.
The fuses all look OK, although the configuration is a little confusing. What gets me it the apparent randomness of the fault- one would have expected (say) all the wipers to go u/s or all the interior lights not to work. This is all a little disconcerting, and everything else in the electrical side is A-OK. The vehicle goes great, and I am really happy with it. I trust the jungle, but now not the LRD electrics!
Can anyone help?

RE: Ghost in the Machine?
All of these things are controlled by a multifunction unit on the back of your fuse box. Get in your truck and do the test.
Diagnostic Procedure
1. Close all doors and the tailgate.
NOTE: If the oil pressure switch goes open circuit
(engine is started) during the following procedure,
the MFU will exit the diagnostic mode immediately.
2. Press and hold the heated rear screen switch
and switch on the ignition.
3. Release the heated rear screen switch within 2
seconds and the MFU will beep to indicate that it’s in
diagnostic mode 1.
4. Press the heated rear screen switch; the MFU
will beep twice. In turn, operate each of the following
switches, heated front screen, rear fog guard lamps,
side lights, headlights, front wiper and rear wiper.
The MFU will beep twice each time a switch is oper-ated.
5. Pressing the heated rear screen again will cause
the MFU to enter diagnostic mode 2.
6. The MFU will provide outputs to the following in
order given below:
Heated rear screen relay energised for 2 seconds
Heated front screen energised for 2 seconds
Courtesy lights energised for 2 seconds
Dim dip relay energised for 2 seconds
Rear fog guard lamp energised for 2 seconds
Headlamp power wash energised for half a second
Front wiper energised for half a second
Rear wipe/wash energised for half a second
7. The MFU will then exit the diagnostic mode.
The test should tell you if it is ok or not.
Also check all of your door switches....
PS. Had to edit that I now hate you more than 98roverguy. He has 78K on the ticker. You have him beat with a 97 with 107K less than me...

RE: Ghost in the Machine?
Thank you OKdiscoguy- I'll try the diagnostic test asap. I don't have front windscreen heaters or foglamps, so I assume that the diagnostics will still work.
I'm going to ruin your breakfast. The Disco was found in Japan and landed in its present home (Cayman Islands) for less that US$6,000 delivered. It was kitted with running boards and full satnav (which also get local TV so the pm drive is fairly relaxing). Great drive, great vehicle... apparently, it was owned bythe samelittle ol' Yokohama mama for 10 years...
