Default Got an Engine Tap.... Temperature Related

Okay guys started noticing a tapping noise yesterday while running errands. It was hot as hell yesterday. My ultra gauge got up to 208.

I let the truck cool down and restarted her a few times. After studying the tapping sound a bit I've come to a few conclusions. When the engine is running at an optimal temperature, say 195-199-201 degrees there is no noise. I tried to get the noise to reappear in the drive way. But I was in the shade and the temperature stayed steady.

Only once it reaches around 208 (while is stop n go traffic) do I hear the noise. It seems like its coming from under the intake/possibly valve cover area.

She's got a new waterpump and radiator. Going to replace the fan clutch to see if that helps idle temperatures. When driving/accelerating the engine stays between 195-199. But at idle in traffic it creeps up 208.

So before anyone drops a slipped liner bomb on me I'd like to consider other possibilities. Could this be exhaust leak that doesn't present itself until the engine gets hot enough? Possible lifter?

If I just keep the engine cooled down and never hear the noise again. That's fine. I'll let it eat at that point.

Oil is clean and a good level, coolant level is good.

Motorad 180. When I first installed I was running 188-195 regardless of climate. I guess it could be fading on me too.

Im going to buy a genuine 180 in light of this as well. Should have mentioned it.

Welcome to the loose sleeve club buddy! Nice of you to join. 1. Inline 180 degree thermostat. (Stant superstat) 2. hayden severe duty fan clutch. That will stop ur noise.

Okay got a video of the noise. On second thought it may not be temperature related. Still hard to tell. Was running 195-199 when it came up again last night

I tried to tell if the noise increased in frequency with acceleration but i didn't have anyone else with me so I can't say at this point. But to me it sounds like it's coming from under the manifold or passenger VC.

Here's a video

Not ready to call it a slipped sleeve RoverMasterTech. Not yet anyways. Would like to eliminate everything else first. She's never been significantly overheated.

Slipped liner. Spray the sides of the block from underneath with a hose.

Is the hose supposed to keep the liner from slipping? Do I wait until I hear the tick and then hose it?

Isn't that difficult to execute while driving?

Yeah wait till it ticks and then spray the side of the block where the sleeves are from underneath, bet the ticking stops.
