Slightly different direction on this one...

2004 Disco II. This year model has the fan blade that cannot be removed from the clutch. Will this fan "Fan Blade URO ERR 3439" (Land Rover Defender 90 Discovery Engine Cooling Fan Blade URO err 3439 | eBay) work with the Haden severe duty clutch?

Thx,

T

If you want the hayden HD clutch you need a 99-02 DII fan blade

Alright guys so for better or worse I have devised a plan. My truck has 165k right now. So at this stage in the game I know that my timing cover is leaking oil. I think that perhaps it is leaking a bit of coolant. I reported in another thread that I was getting temperature spikes on my ultragauge and they are getting higher.

So. Im going to pull the cover. Replace the oil pump gears and timing chain. If the gears are cracked then Ive solved a problem. If not, then I fixed a few leaks.

I will also be installing an inline thermostat so see if cooler temps will quiet this tick. If it does awesome.

If the tick persists after all this then I may try an engine flush. In fact I may do one just before pulling the cover because I have to drain the oil anyway.

If that doesnt work. Im just gonna live it and run it till she dies.

I'm right there with you...

I'm going to try a new fan clutch and maybe the in-line thermostat next. Determined to solve the tick - even if I have to pull the motor.

Im willing to do what is within reason for me to fix. Replacing the chain, gears and cover gasket are expected given time. The inline thermostat isn't that big of a job. These are reasonable things I can do and will give me even more mechanical experience. I am excited for the challenge.

However I am not willing the pull the block or take off the heads to solve this problem. I have given my heart and soul to this truck. Between the headgaksets, waterpump, fan clutch, heatercore and numerous other things my faith deserves to be rewarded. If she keeps ticking after all this Im just going to turn the radio up and let the HD fan clutch down out the sound.

Anything engine flushes you guys recommend? I would like to avoid transmission fluid as that sort of scares me. Would it be best to try it before pulling the cover like I suggested?
