Got a used 04 CDL today - a few questions
Hi folks,
I just got my 04 CDL shifter from roverland today and it looks like i have all the hardware. I was however used to seeing pics of the 04 shifter with only one cable going to the cDL nipple. Despite a lot of reading tonight, i am still not 100 percent clear. My linkage has two cables...do i remove the longer cable? See pic. If i do remove the cable, do i attach the existing hi-lo cable to the new shifter?
Finally, given that the 04 shifter is showing some age (see pic) do i need to oil it or otherwise treat/lube it with anying?
Thanks
Matt

The short cable goes to thqe cdl nipple. The other cable is the hi/low cable. Reuse the one already installed. It is a pain to get the bracket unbolted that holds the cable to the transfer case.
You will also need to remove the soleniod from the 04 shifter.
Lucky8 has a video on how to install the shifter.

I replace my cable when I installed my 04 shiifter because the PO cut both ends of the cable and left the piece boltef to the xfer case when he replaced the cable.
You will also need to remove the soleniod from the 04 shifter. Cut the wire, remove the snap ring and it slides right out.

Do you have the lever that bolts onto the cdl nipple? Its not in your photo.
Clean and lube the shifter and cables. Make sure everything moves free before you install it.
As for posting photos, click on the share icon on the photo in flickr and use the BBCode option, not the html. Copy the code in the box and post it to the thread.

Thanks, Acamato. Yes, i have the bracket. It just came seperately. It looks like i can get the shifter shaft to actuate by pulling on the end of the CDL cable. If i do the same thing to the longer cable i get no movement in the shifter. Should this too mve freely....Not sure if since i am removing the cable anyway. Also, PB blaster or WD40 will work to lube?

Pb blaster will be good to free clean/free up the shifter. I wouldn't use wd-40 to lube it. I used this to lube the cables and shifter.
