Default Gotta Leak

Hello good people of LRF, I've got a question. I have a slow leak that my mech says has to do with the throttle body gasket? The leak seems to happen when the engine is cooled down ie, overnight. It leaves a small cue ball size spot on driveway that dries up. It has a small amount of color ( blackish ) to it. I don't know if this is related but in the morning when I start my Disco II, sometimes while turning the steering wheel to the right I hear/feel a low humming. Any ideas? Thanks a ton - RR.

Thanks...the year is '99, the miles 126K it's a DII like yours. Had all brakes done, new rotors all around. Had a chirping issue and putting grease in the 3 u-joints ( front driveshaft ) seemed to do the trick. I'd appreciate any suggestions - RR.

Keep a close eye on that driveshaft if it has not been rebuilt. You may want to get it rebuilt especially if it was chirping.

Try to figure out what exactly the fluid is. I am suspecting you are leaking power steering fluid from your steering box. Drain the fluid from the tank with a little pump and then add new fluid. Do this a couple times and top off with half a bottle of Lucas anti leak. If the noise from the PAS pump bothers you you can bleed the air out of the system.

def should get the drive shaft rebuilt I'm having mine done now its $150 for the front shaft that's for the 3 u-joints and a centering ball kit. Disco Mike will tell you to grease them twice a year. Squeaking is a bad sign. Mine were squeaking and when the shaft was removed i could see one of the u-joints was coming apart.

as for the liquid i don't think its a throttle body gasket. are you getting a check engine light? are you running low on any fluids are you sure its power steering and not oil?

Always grease your u-joints at EVERY oil change.
You have a power steering leak.
Buy a bottle of power steering fluid with stop leak, keep the power steering system full with the stop leak and eventually it will stop leaking.
If it continues to leak after one bottle of stop leak then you need to have a closer look, could be almost anything, from a leaking hose to a bad steering box.
