Oil pan gasket ?
hey folks !!
in the process of doing the head gasket replacement ( heads are @ the machine shop now), there was enough gunk laying in the heads , although the lifter valley was fairly clean, that i decided I should remove the oil pan and give her a good cleaning as well, my question is....should I buy the oil pan gasket or use the black rtv sealant,
also what's the general opinion of replaceing the lifters at this point, i dont see any abnormal wear ??
thanks for your input !

The oil pan gasket I got for my truck is rubber. Haven't put it on yet, so can't tell you about fit or ease of installation, but the gasket that came off was rubber too, and I've never had a leak around the oil pan attachment area.

thanks for the input all !
I guess I was on some good stuff this evening as I thought the pan would come off (out)without removing the steering arm........but it's off. this had some kind of silly goop on it and not a gasket. I've had other vehicles with "cork " gaskets on the oil pan and it always seems that they leak ....so I guess I'll flip a coin ?!
