I knew it was "based" on that old design, but did not know it was all aluminum.
Are you sure the Buick 215 was aluminum heads and block??
What parts does it share? Heads are different, displacement is different, intake different, it had a distributor, which drove an oil pump, so front cover is different.

Same block, same heads. The block has been bored, but it's still the same. Bosch engine is the only one that didn't have a distributor also.

Yep, the original Buick engine was aluminum. 63 Skylark had the engine.

Yes it was.

Cam, lifters timing chains etc

Cam is not the same.
Specs are different, and the Buick cam has a gear drive on it.

If the stroke is the same, then it has been bored alot, 71 cubic inches.

Didn't the Buick also have rockers arms, not rocker shafts?

96-99 GEMS 4.0/4.6L in the D1/P38 wasn’t using a distributor either.

My Rover cam has a gear drive to.
