Default greetings

hello all,

tomorrow i am picking up my first LR.

let me tell you how i came to this. i used to have a 06' jeep rubicon but after some financial issues that lasted longer then anticipated, i had to sell it. it was a terrific trail rig, but was much to small and spartan. my girlfriend and i have dogs that we will crate and take trips and to remove the rear seat it totally kills the cargo space.

well times are better and i was looking to get a rig to act as a weekend mountain rig and as a around town rig that is a nicer then my jeep was and nicer then my F250 super duty(work rig) is.

i do not know much about the rovers, but i have always loved the look of them. i read and am told that there are issues, but being a ducati and classic ferrari owner, "issues" do not worry me.

the rover i purchased is a discovery SE 2004 w/ 49k miles. it is immaculately clean and everything works. no lights lit on the dash. runs great and a clean service record. 1 owner lease return. silver w/ tan leather. im really excited

being that i am 27 my friends are telling me i am in my old man stage,,,hahaha

here she is

Nice. Here are the first things you need to know about these great trucks.
You MUST use premium gas.
You MUST get the front drive shaft re-built. There are no zerks in the double cardon at the t-case, they seize and take out your tranny.
Do a search for the 3 amigos, and DiscoMike's 60K service list.
Head gaskets usually become an issue.

Keep up on the maintenance and you'll have a very dependable truck.

I love the look of the 04 Disco. I wish I could transplant those headlights to my 98 Disco. You have officially purchased a "head turner". I live in a farming community, and every time I take a trip to town "Halstead, KS", I can watch peoples faces and read their lips,... "WTF is that?" They point at my Disco, stare at it, and act as if I have just arrived from Jupiter or something....lol.But its a good thing. The off road capability, axle articulation, styling, ride, and comfort are unmatched by any stock, and I say.. stock.. American rig, or any rig for that matter. Take care of her, and she WILL take care of you. Congrats man, excellent choice indeed!

Looks like you got a great truck. A well taken care of Disco will last forever. If you're going to be doing much wheeling with it toss some 16" wheels on there. Better sidewall and tire size availability. 04 is my favorite year for the DII. It has all the nice electronic features, and still retains the ability to use the CDL shifter. Some of the DII's had this feature removed.

If you have any questions or concerns with your truck this is the place to ask.

Welcome to our humble little forum.

Read the owners manual front ot back, then read it again, sleep on it and then one more time.
Follow the maintence scheduale and ask questions.
Remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers.

thanks you all so much for the welcome,,

i guess the biggest thing i will look into once i have her is to swap the cv joints for units with zerks and have a shop look at the front drive shaft and rebuild if needed.

i was lerking here last week and reading and the 60k will be no issue. i can turn wrenches and am very mechanically inclined. well enough to reallly screw things up at least.

i agree that if i get into some heavy duty off road stuff those wheels will need to come off in favor of some 16"s with a real off road tire.

well this afternoon i pick her up and drive her home. i will be really digging deep into the rig and looking for things to add

thanks again

I used to own a Jeep tj Sahara and for about a year I kept both the Jeep and Discovery. One of the things you'll first notice, is that the Disco is even harder on gas than your Jeep was, you won't miss the Jeep at all, no matter how much you liked it, and the Disco has a lot more class and utility factor than your Jeep ever had. Don't get me wrong, I still like Jeeps, but the Disco is in a whole other class.

this is exactly what i wanted to hear and it is how i feel things will be.

it will only be a secondary vehicle so gas is not my main concern.
