Greetings from the Jeep world...
That 2004 is a great rare color with low miles. The S model is the minimalist of all 4 editions of the Discover II. Basically no heated seats, no hill descent control. Some S models did not have sun roofs. The 5 variations are S, SE, SE7, HSE, HSE7. There are a ton of SE's out there for sale with & without rear 3rd row seats.
The HSE and HSE7 being more rare. There is also a Trail version with a oval mountain emblem on the back. I think they came with a front factory foam like brush guard. It would not help much hitting a deer.
I have 2003 DII HSE. The HSE editions came with goofy navigation with a British talking turn by turn guy. Its more comical than useful. I nick named him Theodore. You must leave the Navigation CD in your dash CD player for it to work. The second feature is PDC Park Distance control. Which is really cool for parallel parking and tight turn around maneuvering on the trail. It beeps solid when you are 12 inches from an object. And works only in reverse.
PDC can be finicky in winter when snow/ice covers 1 of the 4 sensors in the rear bumper. But over all it works well. The third feature is Hill decent control. This may also be on the SE models. This a cool way to descend a hill at 5mph. You must be in low and keep your foot off the brake pedal! You only steer and hang on! Its a cool feature and will test your faith, ABS and traction control. Also it will trigger your 3 Amigos if you have that gremlin lurking about. Another feature worth mentioning is rear height control. It is only on Discovery's with rear air bags(SLS). I nick named it "*** Jacker Mode". Basically it raises the rear end of the Rover about 3+ inches for a greater exit angle. So you dont scrape your bumper when going up somthing steep. Once you travel over 10mph it automatically goes back to normal ride height. Those are some cool features of the HSE edition.

not true, my local oriley carries many parts, air filters, oil filters, ect. However for electrical components and major parts, its www.Roverparts.com or the stealership.
Yeah I found some of the basic maintenance parts in stock on Autozone's site (for an 01 at least). I went ahead and added the vehicle to my vehicle list to see how much parts were compared to my jeep etc, and to see what they carried in store. The 04, I did not see as many parts listed.
Brakes are the same give or take (calipers are twice as much, front pads are more than the jeep, rear are the same as fronts on the jeep), air filter (little more, i would want the K&N), plugs, same. Some of the gaskets I would have to order whereas on the jeep they had then in stock (transmision kit etc). The O2 sensor is the same price wise, so where a few other sensors.
The prices on parts did not freak me out though.
The biggest differences in price were the ignition systems that I could see. Wires, cap, coil is super cheap on the jeep. Not so cheap on the disco II....hehe
I did not see any joints for the 04. Will have to check those other sites.

The U-Joint parts you'll need for a front DS rebuild aren't even Rover parts (someone correct me if I'm wrong). And that seems to be a trend with a few miscellaneous parts for Rovers, for example the valley pan gasket I bought was listed as an Oldsmobile part in Autozone's computer.
Wife likes this one.....

Only 5k more than what I was looking to spend...lol!!
Heck according to KBB and Edmonds thats somewhat overpriced though?

Craigslist FTW! Use searchtemptest.com and search in a large geographic area and you can find some really great deals. My wife and I got our 03 SE with 80,000 on it (albeit with a small manifold gasket leak) for $5,000. We drove 6 hrs to get it but we saved about $4k off bluebook.
I have to agree with everyone here that you'll love the D2 at first drive. I haven't owned a Jeep, but I've had friends that have and I can say I like the Disco like 1000% better. Very high quality feeling. My biggest beef: 15 combined MPG at Premium gas prices. Just filled it up the other day at $2.90 (good price I thought) and it took $60+...AND it'll last me less than 400 miles. But I suppose that's not horribly different than what you're used to in Jeeps.
The community rocks. As you can see this is one of my first posts because I've been doing the lurk n' learn thing...SO useful. That's a big factor in my choice of vehicles these days.
Yeah man good forums are EVERYTHING.
I have saved hundreds in cash and more importantly - tons of man hours diagnosing, modding, troubleshooting and playing with my YJ over on jeepforum with the help of that community. Great people over there.
Whether we decide on the Jeep GC Limited or the D2, wife will drive it for the time being and I will commute with her Jeep Patriot (2.5L gets like 28 to the gallon lol). She is only driving to work 3 days a week starting next month and it's a 15 mile round trip for her, if that.
I just want a powerful luxury V8, because they are fun, can pull my future KTM dirt bike in style (my reward for selling the YJ LOL!), and can handle any drivetrain mod I want to throw at it on down the line...
I have quality hand tools, am surrounded by good neighboring Ford dealer diesel truck mechanics and I enjoy working on nice rides - as long as I am not dropping transmissions I can handle the work myself, hehe. When it gets that bad, I call them and we talk about it over beer....
To be perfectly honest though, the GC Limited and D2 are the only v8s that I know of that can fit in our garage. That is a huge plus for me.
Far as craigslist goes, its becoming a spammer hell.....I am trying to sell this YJ atm and man I think I have accidently exposed my email to 12 viagra email chains so far LOL

only half the 01's had it.
You'll need to check the date manufactured or be safe and check the T-case ID number to be 100%. Let me know if your interested in the ID numbers and i'll dig them up for you.
