Guesstimate for Head Gasket job on my Discovery?
I'm in Los Angeles, CA - Land Rover specialist is quoting $2,500 for this job
Mine is not leaking too much, at leat the mechanic is honest enough to tell me I can ignore the problem for now

Parts kit is about $300. machine shop is about $200. 12 - 15 hours shop time. DIY guy will take 2 weekends holding a wrench with machine shop inbetween. ARP head stud kit adds a little, but is considered an unpgrade.
Problem when waiting is not knowing when loss of coolant speeds up. Suggest daily cold engine check of coolant level under hood. Heat gauge on dash will show "normal" 50% reading at a wide range of temps, from about 130F to 240F, with norm in the 195 area. So you can be starting overheating and gauge is normal.

I hd it done almost a year ago.
I paid $2000 all parts included and had a new water pump and rad installed also. I highly sugggest doing these, they might go soon after the gasket job is done. It's more money up front but will save on labor in the long run.

I just had mine done over this past week, and I'm about to pick her up tomorrow.
I had the head gaskets replaced, heads milled, oil pump gear replaced, radiator replaced, new water pump, a few coolant lines replaced for 2200. Would have been less had they not found a crack in the radiator, which bumped up the price about 400 dollars. He even offered to put in a CDL for 600 dollars, but it was from a 97, and I have an 03, so it wasn't happening :/.

I just had mine done in the last couple of weeks. My mechanic took his time and was very meticulous.
He charged me for 16 hours labour. I provided all the parts and also had to pay for the machine shop charges for the heads.
After all was said and done, I spent approx. $2300.00 but again he was very meticulous and did a lot of extras like rewrapping all the wiring, relocating some wiring, wrapping the secondary air pipes, updating some throttle body connections, replacing hard plastic supply lines with flexible hoses, etc.
