I've never been in a car wash, so I have no idea at all.
It is true that it won't fit in some parking garages though, like the one at work. So I just park on the street for free and walk a couple of blocks.

I dont wash cars by hand, it is a HUGE waste of water, carwashes use a water reclemation system that seperates the oil and dirt from the water and then they reuse that water to wash your car.
Some cities have banned washing your car in your driveway because of drought and are issuing fines if you get causght.
We wash our cars twice a year, once in the spring to remove the road salt and once in the fall to remove the bugs.
Spike, you need to get a rain water catcher. We have one that holds 300 gallons and right now its so full we took it off the gutter. I always use that when I wash the rover, and it works with a powerwasher as well. Great for if you have a garden too. If you dont want to spend the money on one, you can easily make one. I am 100% sure that its payed itself off already, car washes are a HUGE waste of money, the water bill stays low, ect ect.

I have a local car wash that does a great job and the Rover and rack fit in nicely. You might just have to look around your area to find one with the clearance that you need.

But I have pretty much given up on parking garages for the Rover and my truck.

I wash mine by hand: Power washer (uses less water), 1 bucket soapy water, Power washer to rinse. Done! since December I have washed the 2000 only once after a trip from CA to CO. Drove through the Rockies up to Breckenridge and wanted to get the salt of when I got back home.

If we are all so concerned about a few gallons of water every couple of months that will save the environment, maybe we should all buy a Prius and install some OME's and M/T's! I agree with being green, don't get me wrong! I have some serious issues with Autozone who will not take my empty oil bottles, filters and rags. "Just throw them in the trash, that is what we do" was their exact answer last Saturday when I went to drop it all of. It is now sitting in my garage until I find a better solution for the waste. No way I will throw it in my trash can!! Sorry, end of rant.

A prius is actually worse for the enviroment than a LR, they needs to mine the minerals for the batteries, ship them around the world, build the car, ship it around the world, and then you have to recycle the batteries once they go bad, expected life span of a hybrids batteries is 10 years.

Every gallon of water helps, it all adds up, 2 nickels make a dime kinda thing.

Here is what I do, I collect empty oil bottles from the quick lube when I get the oil changed in my work van and I drain them into one oil bottle and then I use that to add to my van when it needs it, that way the bottles are void of any oil and only the plastic bottle goes into the trash.
Take one "empty" bottle and stick a funnel in it, turn another "empty" bottle upside down in the funnel and let it drain for 24 hours, next bottle, out of 18"empty" quarts I got 2 full quarts of clean motor oil.

Do a search in your area for a "waste to engery" facility, they burn garage and make electricity with steam, there is one here in Grand Rapids and we use a garbage company that takes their waste there.
Its not perfect but its better than a land fill where it will sit forever.
