Hard to drive straight
Hey all, I notice at speeds above 50mph, my truck is hard to keep straight. 2003 Disco, 2" TF lift, 265-75-16 Duratracs on factory wheels, tire pressure at 40psi front and rear. Suspension and steering components look good, truck has 110,000 miles on it now. Any ideas where to start? The alignment has been done 2x during the last 6mos, no issues found then either. It's not that the truck drifts or pulls, but steering wheel is sensitive as hell. Steering shock is a Bilstein, installed about 30k ago.

There is only 1 alignment setting, a toe setting, and it will not cause a steering issue above 50 MPH.
When was the last time you actually had some one inspect each ball joint, tie rod end and your bushings, especially the radius arm bushings for wear?
Also, when did you last flush your p/s fluid to keep the valves working properly?

when you say the steering and suspension parts"look good" what did you do to check to make sure they are good. I.e. grab ahold and pull..twist, tug.. is anything loose. any play at the wheels. put it on a lift and have a real look. check to make sure a bushing is not missing. also I would do a double check on the steering dampner. I am not al that certain of the capacity of the bilstin to handle the extra load being put on it. you have 2" inch lift plus those tires, that is a lot of extra weight and meat for a non heavy duty dampner to be handleing especially after 30k on it. But seriously you need to have a look at the parts and try to see if anything is loose or has play in it. the other thing is to check to see if your tires are wearing differently left to right front to back.

Thank you guys for the suggestions. I have an oil change coming up, I will check all components closely to make sure. Regarding the steering shock, wouldn't the steering wheel jerk when going over a bump if the shock is bad? There is definitely a lot of weight on the vehicle now, tires are wearing even front and rear. The info on this websites are always helpful.

I've had a bad stabilizer, four ball joints as part of the Death Wobble, and a sticking caliper. Stablizer does not make any difference for me on or off while on pavement with respect to steering straight. Caliper was pulling, and I found it with my IR thermometer, took a test drive, coasted to the side, hopped out, and check brake disc temp on each axle. One disc was 20 - 30 degrees hotter than the other on the same axle.
