Default Hard Start in cold weather

Hey Gang

I have a 2000 disco 2 . I put a new motor in it around Christmas 2012. Have drove it since. I have developed a problem of starting in cold weather. If I leave it in the shop it starts and runs fine and doesn't have any problems all day. Just the first start of the day. I have checked the battery. (New) Another problem is the M & S lights flash occasionally . Radio goes in and out of signal as well. This past weekend I had to crank on her really hard no go. I noticed from the engine swap that there was a ground from the body not connected and that the negative post only connected to a 10mm bolt on the front of the motor. I replaced the negative post wire with the one off the old motor. 10mm bolt on the motor and on the fuse block. Connected the ground strap. Seems like my lights are brighter and started every since. have not tried it outside in cold weather yet. Could this grounding be the cause of all the problems ??

Very likely related. The starter motor pulls serious amount of amperage during cranks. Have you ever notice while driving that your e-brake handle would get hot? That is an unfortunate way to find out you have grounding issues. Search the forum for my post titled Disco Inferno.

M&S lights with no CEL can equal tranny computer sees below 9V battery level. Bad ground can certainly do this.

Yes Coors now that I think about it the ebrake handle was hot this last weekend before I found the ground stuff. Haven't got to test the start since. Have the rover on lift changing the brake pads. Thanks for the info.

Also go to your local parts store and get a free charging system test performed, voltage needs to be between 13.6 and 14.4 volts.
