Default Hard Starting

Hi Guys,
I'm new to this so please bare with me. I purchased a 1996 Discovery 3.9L V-8 with the 5 speed. I bought it with the intensions of fixing it up since it was non running when I received it but it's in pretty decent shape. So far I've changed out the distributor (weights came off), Timing Chain (off one tooth), a complete tune-up, changed out the fuel injectors (some were actually stuck open), and the MAF Sensor (missing). The LR runs great when it's running. It's hard to start. It acts like it wants to but won't until it finally catches. It turns overnumerous times. I'd say an average of 20 seconds. Yes I know it'sbad for the starter. When it runs it smells rich. I've looked for an O2 Sensor but it seems they don't have one? Has anyone ever had this type of problem? Please let me know. Thanks and I'll post the picture of the Discovery soon.

Did you change the fuel filter in your tune-up? Is the CEL on?

Hi Jull,
Yes Sir I changed the Fuel Filter. Uhm what's a CEL? I've checked the fuel pressure and it's 50psi. When I go to crank it, it drops to 45psi but it stays constant.

CEL is the Check engine light. If you have an o2 sensor issue it should trigger a code. If it is on, get your codes read.

I'm pretty shure you have O2 sensors on your disco, my old 1987 accord had one. They are located on the exhaust line, you are supposed to have 4 of them. 1 on each side before the catalytic converters, and 1 on each side after the catalytic converters. They look like spark plugs.

Thank You Sir,
This vehicle doesn't have any converters nor does it have any O2 Sensors. I'm going down to the Dealership to get a printout of the exhaust. This vehicle is an export from Britain and the exhaust doesn't look butchered. So we'll see. I'll keep you posted Sir and thanks for your help.

Check your fuel pressure at the rail in the morning after sitting all night and before starting, if no or very low pressure, you may have a bad valve on the fuel pump allowing the gas to bleed back to the tank, requiring the pump to reprime it self.
