Default has anyone done a master cylinder rebuild?

All the threads I read said, buy the master instead of a rebuild because there was little savings. I found a rebuild kit at roversnorth for $62. Proline master is $199. Is there any reason not to do a master rebuild? Does this not fix all master cylinder problems? Any advice? Thanks in advance!

By your question, I would safe to say you haven't rebuilt a master cylinder before. What is wrong with your's, is it by passing or leaking externally, if so from where?

Good timing on the post. I went out to the garage this morning and found a puddle of brake fluid behind the left front tire. After investigation, It looks like the rubber seals on the resovouir are leaking. A new resovouir with seals from AB is $99 - http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/STC2904.cfm, the master cylinder kit is $199 - http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/STC1284.cfm The worst [art of this was all of the brake fluid (paint remover) on the fender well.

It looks like all I need is the rubber grommets the resovouir sits in, so the resovouir kit should work right?

A re-build kit won't do anything if the piston bore is worn, scored, scratched, pitted, etc. If you had the time, you could pull the master cyl, disassemble and inspect the bore before you buy the re-build kit

My thoughts exactly! It's probably leaking because the bore is pitted. You can hone some of it out, but I have had them leak from time to time. I mostly just buy new these days. But if you can pull yours off and look...

I just finished taking the resovouir off to inspect and I found the grommets to look okay, but there is a small tube coming out of the booster and I believe the leak is around that tube, so it would appear that a master cylinder lit is needed.
