Default Hate these aluminum blocks.

Just thought I'd vent I finally got everything back together after replacing the front cover gasket (and oil pan gasket and water pump gasket). I go to screw in the oil cooler fitting on the bottom of the front cover and the threads are jacked up (they looked fine but the fitting would not screw in). I had the cooler line just sitting in the hole and I must have hit it when I was installing the oil pan cover.

Anyhow my father has AAA so we got it towed to a shop that machined my cylinder heads and hopefully they can straighten out everything (I know when to quit). It stinks because I was bragging to my wife how good everything was going and this was the last thing I had to tighten up. Btw getting that front engine cover over the crankshaft key was a bitch.

Hopefully I get my truck back tomorrow...

You jinked yourself by telling your wife how well it was going.

Yeah I know. I was just tired and got sloppy. Laying on cold concrete for 3 days in a row will do that. It sure got me a doozy of a cold.

I don't think the weight savings of aluminum blocks is worth all the problems that come with them

Yes of course. Aluminum is much softer than steel. Also the fitting is made of steel so if the steel threads to get messed up a little you can really screw up the aluminum threads.

The shop fixed the threads and charged me $40. Not a bad end the the saga. I got my truck back and no more coolant leak. Note to self learn how to measure and chase your own threads.
