Have 2000 Discovery Series II
I recently acquired a 2000 Land Rover Series II. It has been sitting for a few years. I have replaced the gas, oil, and battery. The lights and electrical system seem to be working. When I try to start the engine the oil and battery indicators light up but will not turn over. Any suggestions and ideas on what I should do in order to get it started?
Thanks. I have a new battery. I will have to check the starter would be the best thing to be to run the ODB reader and then diagnose from there? Or there is a better way to tell if there is an issue with the starter?
Nothing OBD2 wise is gonna tell you if you have a bad starter. A meter, and a helper is the quickest way. Slap the meter on the small lead + and then to ground with the - lead on meter. Have a helper turn the key. You should get 12v + when the key is turned. If you do the vehicle is doing everything properly but the solenoid is out on your starter. A new starter should get you going. If you don't have 12v + when the ignition is turned you either have a bad fuse, or possibly an issue with the ignition switch or electronics.
Lots of times there is a security lockout issue. You can jumper the starter relay from the fusebox underhood. Do you know how to do that? That will tell you if the starter is the issue or something else.
