Head Gasket 2000 Disco II
There had been a full head job done 15 K Miles ago by the previous owner. Hose blew and a friend over heated it.Now there is a compression stroke leak on the passenger side between the head and block toward the exhaust.Oil is fine ( no mixing ) and there does not appear to be coolant or oil leaking but sounds like a bad exhaust leak. Checked the head bolt torque and they were 45 Deg from snug. Tightened to spec did not help.
I have done many head jobs but not on a rover. Question is if I remove the head do I have to have the head milled flat ( warp ) or can I just replace gasket ? My exp. with these little tinny alum heads is the bolts pull them wear you need them.
Thanks !

You will need new bolts (they are stretch bolts). You would want to check for flatness, even if not milling the heads. Shop may do that for a minimal charge. IMHO that is a wise investment, although if you have the right feeler gauges and a known flat edge, you could also do it. But that is something they do every day.

Do you have a burn mark on the heads or block where the exhaust was escaping, if you that will need to be cleaned up, so yes they need to be resurfaced but only take of the minumin so you don't effect the compression.
Make sure to use American or German head bolts, none from China and use head bolt threaD LUBRICANT ON THEM WHEN FOLLOWING ROVERS PRCEDURE.
