Drewak1, if you are going to phiscally inspect the oil pump you need to drop the oil pan, front frame support, pull the water pump and timing case cover. You might want to button up the topend first, otherwise you will end up with just a short block sitting there. JMHO And oil pump problem are USUALLY in the later models.

Thanks Guys,

There was evidence of the leak but nothing deep. I surfaced the head in my mill only removing .020" overall and it is flat now.

My only concern is with the compression having not surfaced the other head. BUT I ran some calcs and the compression diff between is actually minimal.

Thanks for the tip on the oil pump I will check it out !

Do you guys use Copper Spray on the head gasket ? This is what I use on Diesel engins when I rebuild.

Thanks !

I think the overhaul manual section of the RAVE says dry.. This is cool from questions to pulled head to machined and clean in less time than it takes most guys to find all their sockets...

I did not use the copper spray when I did mine, but after doing it "I believe" DM may have suggested it. But for some reason "one side only" sticks in my mind, I cant tell you why.
