Default Head Gasket/Cracked Block

My son recently bought a 2003 Disco 2 from a tow yard, it had obviously been towed in off the road due to overheating. The water system was completely empty and we found a split in the hose coming from the water pump. I replaced that hose and then filled the cooling system, on turning over the motor it tried to fire but blows all of the coolant out of the reservoir instantly, its like a water fall!
I wonder if this is indicative of a failed head gasket or more likely a dropped liner/ cracked block
Any advice guys?

Make sure the belt is on correctly and the pump is moving in the right direction.

Failed head gasket will build exhaust pressure in cooling system.
