Head gasket job Questions
Huh, I guess I will mull it over. I couldn't even really get the last one on, and had to rely on the uppr intake crushing it down. Why would they design it that way? Why not just have it slip on.
I ported the cylinder heads, and Upper intake. Practiced on the Plenum chamber, but the six inch mandrel from Summit Racing turned in a noodle, so I only did an inch and half.
I didn't push it to hard and I worked on some ridges, widened and enlarged the ports. Went to 80 grit prior to the combustion chamber, and 120 grit for the exhaust ports.
The Summit porting kit worked great. I got a Makita Die Grinder, because it had a paddle control which I think was worth it, but you could do the HF Grinder. I don't think I went over the lines anywhere. I polished around the injector ports, but didn't reshape. that part.
There was not much to take off, so I got out the Dremel and polished the Throttle Body. Definitely not ready for Chip Foose, but it's as smooth and clean as it has ever been.
Tomorrow. To the Machine Shop!

Got the heads, intake and bits back from the Machine Shop. Performance Auto Parts on the Southside right by Midway. Great to deal with, professional. They had some Vettes in there that make an '03 Disco2 pedestrian for them I am sure, but they handled it quickly and professionally.
Got the Valve Covers Green, and intake Cummins beige. Here is a sample.
I could have painted myself, but am glad I had them do it.

I cleaned all of my pistons, and the head gasket surface today with WD 40. There are parts of the block that have some indentation, roughness where the old head gasket was compromised. In the after pic you can see the indentations, on the before the middle of the gasket directly above the indentations.
I have green scrubbies, and am not sure I am qualified to resurface a block. What do you guys think? Is it OK?
