Head Gasket or other?
Good to know Friday, Thanks! I'll definitely keep that in mind for the future!
I had the leaking front cover a few years ago and was just reporting what the cost was at a good indy shop. The leak was noticed at work, luckily only 4.5 miles from my apartment. I was able to top up the coolant (always carry a gallon of pre mix) and get home without overheating. Then at the time Lamorna Garage was less than 1 mile away in Ballard, so I topped up again and got the truck to him. Driving 40 miles that way may not have worked so well!!
And thanks Shane, I have a garage, but the Disco is too tall to get into it, and thats where I store my vintage VW bus. They have rules about working on cars in the shared garage space but the owner is cool as long as it doesn't involve anything that could make a mess with fluids. Works ok for the air cooled car ;-D... My son recently rented a small storage space nearby and it is literally a 4x6 closet... $80/month with a 3 month minimum. So... That might work out better in a smaller town without 5000 new people a month moving in.

Post pics of the VW. Now...hurry.
What's my deal? I want you to know what you're talking about the next time...

Hey Friday Night, thanks for the images. That helps me picture it, and understand that the LR service adviser was probably wrong. I was a little freaked out that he said it would not leak coolant, while the indy guys said they pressure tested and could see right where it is.
Sixpack, you are making me feel like a real wimp! haha. I spent almost no labor $$ on the truck since my warranty ran out. (Land Rover had done probably close to $20,000 on it under a GM warranty.) Since then, I've spent a lot of days in the junkyard pulling door actuators, replaced water pump, numerous throttle body heaters, o2 sensors, alternator, crankshaft position sensor - all with the help of this forum!
It's literally 8 degrees here, windy and I'd be doing the job outside - in the dark. I am SOOOO cheap - but even I will take a pass on this one. This summer I'll do the power steering to make up my loss. THANKS ALL!

It's the same temperature here.
I've fixed several cars over years in it too...and I wouldn't do it again either unless I had to, lol.
My Disco is sitting outside my garage now.
And it'll keep sitting there until it hits the 40s or 50s!

I found my invoice from the front cover job 2 years ago... 3.25 hours labor @ $110. per, plus sump and front cover gaskets as well as a new water pump which they charged $199.00 for, and an oil change in there too with 6 quarts of Swepco 20w50 @ $9.50 per quart. That is how that added up to near $800 FYI.
