Default Headgasket

Hello all, 1st time posting in here but daily reader & 2x Disco owner. Gotta question for all.
03 Disco 106k miles on it slow coolant leak, ( never overheated) in 2yrs. replaced gaskets at thottle body last yr. Now notice slow leak at bottom. My mechanic checked it out this week & looks like blownhead gasket @ the rear corner driver side. He is willing to fix but 1st question is this. 1st off he is a master "A" tech w/ 39 yrs on motors of all kinds but only touched LRS a few times doing timing belts & such. His concern is that job is listed @ 12hrs for both & he thinks it can be done in a lot less time, soooooo whats under there that is going to take him a while or throw him for a loop? basic question is this #1 the guy knows engines but not saavy on LRs is there anything he is going to run into that will throw him for a loop? parts, screws, nuts, equipments that only the dealer has? any special rover quirks that he should know when doing this please advise guys.

Thanks

It's your basic simple pushrod engine, nothing special. There's just a lot of stuff that has to come off, 12 hr is probably about right. It probably took me about twice that but I was in no hurry and I tore the rocker arm assembly down to, plus the valve seals took sometime. Make sure he gets an intake gasket set.

Normal parts and labor on your engine with secondary air, head work excluded if needed, is apx. $1500

The only LR with a timing belt is the FreeLander and that has a BMW engine.
Like Jkid said, this is a simple engine, it is build just like a Chevy 350 only it says LR on the hood.

parts & labor will be well under1500, & he is aware of all basics such as intake gasket change out & bolt change out, just any otherr quirks is what I am checking for for him before he starts. But it sounds this this is a simple job & it should not present any problems

Change out the t/stat, use Dexcool only, if replacing the belt, also ereplace the belt tensioner and both idler pulleys.

Will you PM me his name & contact info please? I live in St Aug and although not a LR owner yet, I plan to relatively soon. I plan on doing most if not all of my work myself, but it can't hurt to have a backup # of a reputable guy.
