No need to replace the belt now, it's still new and easy to do anytime. The pulleysshould be replaced if they are noisy. I'd get all the coolant hoses replaced now if they are original + new coolantif it's been a while since most of it needs to be drained.

Listing all the quirks about a LR could take days. But as far as head gasket replacement goes it is pretty straight forward. Make sure your mechanic knows that he must use new head bolts. The head bolts stretch and can not be reused. My mechanic that specializes in LR charges 10 hours shop time to change head gaskets. Total charge for new head gaskets, water pump, oil cooler lines, and miscellaneous must fix now stuff was $2200 if that give you an idea of what you can expect to pay.

Hey all figured I'd drop in & give an update on the headgasket replacement. Got all parts for 213$ . Mech was showin me some interesting things in the design of teh disco engine. My old gasket was actually still intact , but he did see where the corner on drivers side was leaking . He said its just a design issue & i'll probably be good for another 100k. The issues were #1 not ennuff head bolts,( small block chevys fro example have 12 head bolts#2 two different metals( aluminum on top) cast iron on bottom ( i think) 100 great seal will never work here. Side note this is surely true, my other truck is a 99 Dakota RT v8 5.9 . Overheated it 5 times now racing, think I need a new radiator, headgaskets still intact. If that was a alum engine or a alum/metal would have been doen 1st time.In addition I had him researchan oil leak for me that one guy noticed last year on tune up. Nothing significant, but he said it is virtuall impossible for a disco not to have a smal oil leak to to the design of the front of the head ( behind radiator as your facing). 1 bolt secures it w/a gasket & when you add up the pressur that is going inside the motor its bound to happen. Now we are not talking oozing oil here just the occasional drip here & there. Integrity of my motor looked good & the positive is the pain in the *** corner bolt * wher the leak was) was tightened pretty hard, meaning it was probably done outta of the truck @ factory so this was 1st replacement.( Never mentioned I bought w/ 25 k on it) in 05.
Other than that all went well. & I found a decent pair of used chevron style running boards toofor $250, been searchin for months now , new thye are 699, used were around 400. So he put those on already & they look good. So bottom line parts included, Runnin board install & all I'm under $1200. Guy is good. lucky I got him here. He is not worried about workin on LR's anymore after he really got into it & saw it was cake. SO i can officially refer u guys now. However My disclaimer is although u will get a deal, & he will beat the dealer in JAx, Fla, you wont get the deal I got, but it will be damn close. His labor is only 60$ hr. but with all the work I send him with 3vehicles he can take 4 months off . SO if anyone in my area needs his info lemme know & I'll get it to ya.

OH: I replaced headgaskets , exhaust manifold, gaskets upper/lowr, bolts, drained radiator, & new oil, new coolant, few new hoses. new oil filter, I'll add a pic of my rover this weekend, but I know most of yall will hate it cuz it aint for off roadin

Default Check engine light (new question ) continuation

Piggy backing off this headgasket post, I picked up rover 2day. Runs great , but then again never had an issue b4 except for coolant dripping every 10 dyas. anyway check engine light came on, scanner said transmission sensor I belive?, cleared it 2x came back after running for a while. Now when it comes to the tranny I have had 2 instances. 1st about 1 yr ago, started, drove off & felt sluggish, almost like in 1st gear, looked @ auto shifter & saw flashing light ( quick flash) I say that cuz I think that is a code as well as slow blink, anyway pulled to side of road, turned off & on, never an issue since. then last mo, on a 30degree day here in FLA, started drove off & it would not move, like it was in neutral, turned off & on again , never an issue. 1st time check eng light came on then went off in a day, last mo light never came on, 1st issue was on a hot day. Light is still on as we speak, but as i said just picked up, mechanic said he noticed on test drive 2day. [:@]any ideas?
