I would bet your seeing the safety lights, not the low beams. Our trucks have a small, separate dim bulb in the headlight housings that is powered separately. Sounds like your lights are out altogether.

If you get the blue light on your dash when you turn the highs on, it means the switch is good as the idm (which is hidden circuits in your fuse box) is seeing current.

Do you own a voltage meter? We need to find out if we have negative (ground) at the lights.

Let me know about the meter.

You really want one that will display the actual voltage, not just a range. That one looks like it was designed for electricians doing AC stuff. Later on you'll want to use it to test your battery and alternator, and the difference between 12 and 14 volts is a big deal.

though a $8 from harbor freight or wal-mart would work fine too.

EDIT: make that $4.99

I jiggled the wires behind the headlights and the lights came on,so I guess I have a bad connection back there.Any solutions?

Yes, just figure out exactly where/which connection it is and look inside it. It is possible it is just loose or it is possible it is corroded if water got in there. Either way, should be a very simple and easy fix. If there are broken tabs on the connectors you still should be able to not need new ones if the internal connection is solid and you could use tape. Just look inside at the male and female parts of the plug and see if any are damaged or loose.
