Default headlight problem

Last night I discovered that my headlights have stopped working. No problems with the fuses and the high beams still work. When i turn the dial the dash lights come on and i noticed that when I move the dial to full headlight mode that the dash lights dim as if power is being sent to the lights. Any ideas? I cant believe that both bulbs blew at once but i guess its possible. Thanks

As lr2001 said it is possible, I know first hand because both mine blew at the same exact time.

Ok so i was down at advanced auto and was about to buy some new bulbs. However, when i went to pay i asked the guy if the headlights and high beams come from the same bulb and he said yes. Now these guys arent always the sharpest so i figured i would check with you fine folks. If they are from the same bulb i have problems because the high beams still work. Any thoughts?

Same bulbs, different filament.
Use some gloves when installing. Dont touch the bulbs with your bare hands.
