Default Headliner out, now I have electrical issues

I have NO idea what's going on, but I took my headliner out this afternoon and now I have a bunch of weird electrical-related things happening...

-key fob no longer works to lock/unlock the doors, but I can lock/unlock by putting the key in the driver's side door
-clock is not working (nothing is displayed)
-climate control reading switched to Celsius (had it set to Fahrenheit)
-windows all roll down while vehicle turned off (no key in the ignition)

and who knows what else...

I pretty much left everything unhooked (dome lights, sunroof switches, rear ac switches, etc.) after pulling the headliner out. Would that have anything to do with it? Not sure what to check... It's late, I'm tired and stumped!

I had the same symptoms - caused by a blown fuse in the drivers side dash panel.

The key fob issue sounds like the receiver for the central locking system was disconnected. 86-4-28 of the rave describes where it is(based on whether you have sunroofs, which I think the SE does).

The clock also sounds like it's not connected. Out of curiosity, does it light when you turn on the headlights? The device is powered off fuse 20 in the passenger box, while the illumination is powered on fuse 16.

Climate control resetting to C sounds like a loss of power at some point(did the same when I swapped out a battery in mine).

I've got no idea on the windows. I'm not sure how those would be rolling down without something seriously weird going on with the BCU.
VWR102140-A in the 2002 and earlier electrical library shows the BCU controls the front windows(for the auto down feature), but the back window diagram in VWR104220-A don't have the BCU involved at all.

Put it all back together and hope it works?

That's exactly what I'm hoping for (put it all back together and everything works as it should). Going out this morning to hook all the switches back up to see what happens. I will still check some of the fuses, but I have no idea how pulling the headliner would blow fuses... And not sure about loss of power while pulling the headliner either, but that makes sense with the temperature reading changing to Celcius (as I'm pretty sure that's the default after unhooking the battery). Yeah, windows rolling down with no key in the ignition... isn't that nice.

With so many unrelated electrical things happening all I can think of is that something (maybe a ground wire?) came loose. Either that or some of the switches are required to be hooked up in order to to complete some of the circuits. Or maybe something shorted and blew a bunch of fuses. Whatever the case, I just hope to get it figured out here soon...

Curious... which of the same symptoms did you have? I'm hopeful that some fuses blew while taking the headliner out... however in the world that would happen!?

The front dome light has two plugs going to it, the flat white one, plus a black one that goes to a narrow tab that is part of the metal framework that the light assembly bolts to. You can access it from underneath, by taking the two 8mm(?) nuts off. My light did the same thing when I forgot to hook the black plug back up. I'm guessing that the remote receiver got nerfed somehow when you were getting the liner back in. Unfortunately, you're going to have to at lest get the left side of the liner back down to assess that. Look for a black box with a white label on it.

It's always prudent to disconnect the battery before disconnecting or recconnecting plugs or circuits otherwise the control system becomes confused as I assume much goes via the BCU.

Also, before I strip anything on any truck that I'm not entirely 'au fait' with I always take loads of digital photos which to a dummy like me proves invaluable, particularly electrics etc - I hate them.........

Well for starters, I had a blown fuse. F20 (15 amp - ALL Transponder coil, header 294, header 725) in the driver's side compartment. A new fuse fixed 3 of the issues. The clock is still not working, but now thinking that may just be a bulb. Weird (to me) how all this happened while pulling out the headliner, everything worked fine prior to that. Oh well, it is what it is... thanks for all the replies/suggestions.

Glad you're making progress. I blew a fuse when removing the front dome light which of course removed power to the light as well as caused my central locking and my heater display would default to Celsius on start up. Your clock should still display time with a blown bulb.
