Where should I get my headliner replacement material from?

Headliner Express is showing $54 for shipping on an 8 pound headliner kit that costs $150, which is already a lot. I was ready to pay $150 for the material, which was already expensive for fabric and a can of spray, but that con of a shipping charge stopped me at the checkout. $200 for fabric and a spray can is absurd.

WLSHeadliners shows Disco headliners for under $100. Are they legit? Or where else can I get my headliner material? Or am I stuck being ripped off by fast talking Bill from Florida?

And for comparison, it’s only $18 for shipping at WLS Headliners, or $39 for the most expensive shipping option. So I’m not getting worked up about nothing.

Edit: For future reference, this 64” in width was apparently not wide enough...

Original Post: Amazon has foam backed, 64” width, 3/16 thick headliner fabric from headliner magic, 3 yards for $55 with free shipping. 3 yards and two sprays cans is what HE is charging $200 for. Historically on these forums HE has repeatedly jacked up the price over the years, I’ve seen much lower prices in older posts of the same fabric and I know I’ve looked at getting this a few years ago and the shipping was less. Can’t stand scams.

I’m going to order this from for Amazon and let you guys know how it turns out... can’t beat $55, and I’ve got some Amazon gift cards laying around so it’s basically free.

My local shop only charges $80, after I wasted $50 on materials the first time and made a mess of it I never attempted it again

Thanks for sharing Extinct. That’s the gist I’ve gotten from reading about this job. I’m removing the board myself but paying a guy to do the finesse-work. I’ve read so many horror stories of wasted fabric and time.

I just heard the going rate in Portland is $650 to drop it off and have a pro do the work... Sounds high.

Yeah, that sounds about right if you don’t get the fabric yourself or get your hands dirty at all. Removing and then reinstalling the board yourself saves a few hundred.

Wanted to update this for future headliner repairers:
The auto reupholstery shop tried the 64” and said it turned out too narrow, so they had to source their own fabric after all. When I first brought it in he thought it might stretch enough to work, and he tried, but it didn’t quite do the trick.

So don’t get the 64” material I listed above.

Don't bother with fabric. Just take off the headliner, wire wheel all the adhesive off, and paint it. While it's down, cover the roof in Dynamat; it'll quiet it down like the foam and help keep the cabin cool. If you use a roller, it'll even look a lot like fabric.

There's a Disco in my area where the owners covered the headliner in maps, and it looks amazing. That's also an option if you're feeling crafty.

I like it Jason. I considered that option, but for aesthetic, I went with fabric again. I'm in the process of doing maintenance on the sunroofs before reinstalling the headliner to prevent future leaks from causing headliner sag again. If the headliner ever sags again though, I will definitely just go the painted headliner route for simplicity's sake.
