Headliner upgrade
Like many other Disco owners I had a saggy headliner and was tired of trying to fix it with adhesives and have it stain the light tan color just to have it fall down in a couple weeks with the Arizona heat. I decided to take the headliner out and have it reupholstered at a local shop that did it for $100 including all material. I also wanted to go with the theme of my almost all black interior so I had it recovered in black. While I had the headliner out I covered the whole top in Noico 80mil sound deadining material. My thought was, one to deaden the wind noise and two to absorb some of the heat that is transferred during the summers. While I was completing the roof I also replaced all four door speakers with new Kicker 3-way speakers and installed sound deadining mat on the doors. The road noise is amazing. Although I have not completed the floor yet, It is as quiet as my wife’s Mercedes going down the road. What do you think of the final product?

I rolled the windows all the way up and removed from the inside door panel the removed the plastic coating that protects the moving parts inside the door. It exposes the metal skin of the door panel. I then reached in and covered the deadining material from top to bottom. Be ready to wear about all the skin off of your arms trying to get to the hing side of the door but it is worth it when it is over.

It took me less then 30 minutes to disassemble the items holding the headliner to the roof and another 30 minutes to reassemble. It is pretty simple without the sunroofs. My disco doesn’t have sunroofs so I didn’t have to deal with the sunroof drain issues... I actually purposely only buy Discos without sunroofs because the AZ heat is brutal with only having screens to block the UV rays. Sorry I didn’t do a tutorial because I thought one had already been done on this site.
