Sounds like you have a short somewhere. What year is your truck?

Must have missed the truck info in your signature. My bad.

When you say "out of nowhere, they turned on", are you meaning you got a wild hair and pushed the button and they came on even though they hadn't in the past or did they turn on by themselves?

If they turned on by themselves I would find what the circuits have in common that might have sent a jolt causing them to turn on. My first guess would be a loose ground connection that just happen to make contact when you hit a bump or the planets aligned right. I could be way off but that's where I would start looking.

I actually have noticed my car do this twice. Both times I believe it did that right when I turned on the defrosters. I was confused and they went right off when I pressed them. it either happened by coincidence or something is programmed to do that. It hasn't done it for awhile though. Strange things.

they will turn on when you are using the defrost mode in the hvac. they are on a timer in the hvac module and will turn off after 5 mins, dont quote me on the time though. If the screens are not frosted i just turn them off and let the regular defrost take care of the fogging. they dont turn on if you use the mode button to find defrost, only when the actual defrost button is pressed.

The front will turn on automatically in cold weather too (like below 40F). I love the feature - nothing ever builds up and I don't have to push any buttons.

As already stated, if you hit the windscreen button, then both the front and rear screen heaters will come on automatically, how ever, I think mine have done this once or twice before, dunno why its just the crazy land rover logic lol.

yeah, if your turn the defroster (the fan powered one) it turns them both on. My DII does it every time.
