The panel was listed for 99-04 discoII. When I got it there was tape on the back that said 2002. It did not have the front cover so I used the one I already had and cut out holes for the 2 new switches with a dremel.

ahh ok, that's still a good deal. I paid $35 with shipping but it had the cover plate for the heated seat switches.

Right before I moved to Alaska I figured this out. Talk about awesome. Kinda feel bad
for the people paying for it from the factory. How much was the heated leather seat option?

Default Heated Seats

Does anyone know the earliest year that this was possible? I have a '96 D1 with powered electric seats.

Will the extra switch trick work with a 96? Is there a wiring harness I can look for?

Thanks!

I haven't looked on a DI but on a DII if you remove the switch face plate (it has four small posts that push in, you can gently pull it straight out) you will see the switches and the base plate. The base plate should have cutouts for the window switches (4), seat heaters (2) and a master window lock (1). There are four small screws that hold the base plate in place. Remove those four screws and lift out the base plate, switches intact. It will also give you an opportunity to clean any crumbs, leaves or other unwanted stuff that may have worked its way behind the cover. The wiring harnesses that connect the windows are separated by side, left and right. Also part of each harness may be a connector for the seat heaters. I believe that my driver's side (left) was green and the passenger (right) was white. They just plug right in to the heated seat switches. Test it out and see if it works. Put it all back together and you should be good to go. Should take you about 10 minutes if you do the cleaning and are snooping around, 5 minutes if you don't. If the harnesses don't have the heated seat plugs, you probably don't have the heating elements in the seats. My 2000 had the plugs but no switches. I added the switches and a new face plate, $20. When depressed the button should light up and then you should feel you seat start to get warm. Good luck. Phil

Holy thread revival, Batman

I bought the switch plate and hooked everything up. It was 30 this morning so I started it up, pushed the button waited a few minutes and.... nothing. Waited 10 more minutes and still nothing. Driver and passenger side still cold. The light comes on both switches when I turned them on. I find it hard to believe that since the heated seats were never used that they're already broke! Is this another one of those options that has to be "activated" thru the BECM by the dealer? (like fog lights and heated windshield)

Eric
