What do you classify as "very hot?" the seats are supposed to maintain a temperature between 87 and 96 degrees. There's really no way to turn them down without putting a voltage regulator in the circuit somewhere, which is more work than it's worth. Just do what I do, turn them on, warm the seat up, turn it off. repeat.

IMHO you may be risking more than you think. I have pulled a number of seats from the salvage yard, and the electric ones had heated the upholstery foam so much it had discolored to various shades of dark brown. It is not that cold where I am, so I am glad not to have them connected. If the foam ever ignites, it will take the whole truck in a few minutes. On the other hand, it's insured....

You have a short in the heating element in the seat.

My driver's side one gets super hot too. So hot that it has actually discolored the back of the seat. I turn it on for maybe 30 seconds and my butt is already burning. Just don't leave it on all the time and carry an extinguisher just in case
