Default Heated Windscreen Conversion

I have a Series 2 Discovery V8 4Ltr Year 2000 Model on an X Plate.

I am about to have the Windscreen replaced due to a very bad chip, what I was wondering is, "as I have checked the wiring under the bonnet each side next to the pillars and the Heated Windscreen Switch Skts are present and wired".

If I have a heated Windscreen fitted can I just get a "Heated Windscreen Switch" and replace the blanker with it, along with a "Plug in relay" to go under the Bonnet, would it work.

If this would work how do I find out about the part Nos for what I would need. Thanks in Advance

I was thinking about doing this last winter, while scraping ice from the windshield one day last winter. Hopefully someone else can chime in, but I believe all that is needed would be the heated windshield, the switch for the cluster, then a trip to a dealership or to someone with a Testbook, to have the heated windshield option enabled on the BCM.

That's what I've read. You need to have the dealer program the BCU. however, you could get the switch and relay and see if you have power at the plug. You might get lucky. Keep in mind though that the heated windscreen is 2-3 times the cost to replace. I thought about doing it too as I have a chip in mine but considering how quick my Disco warms up, I decided against it.

yes aftermarket the heated runs around $750 the un-heated is about $250. choose wisely because with the angle of our windshields they don't take rocks very well on the motorway.

Yes, it can be done and if you live in a cool area, like I do in Colorado, you will love the new heated w/s.
