Default Heater Core O-ring replacement

Got an '02 Disco that has been leaking coolant in the passenger footwell. Found the leak coming from the heater core in out lines. I got the new orings, and tried replacing them. I've been able to get everything back together, but I just can't seem to get the pipes to slide all the way back in to the heater core and I've been trying everything I can think of for a couple days now. Any helpful tips? There's barely any wiggle room with those pipes.

Thanks!

If the o rings are too tight, you might try a small amount of dish soap to help them slip.
