Default Heater / Defrost flap lever question

So while I had the glove box off looking into O2 / ECU testing I decided to inspect the heater control box. I have heat and the blower runs fine. AC works well in the summer. So all mostly good. I have noticed I do not get any forced air out of the defrost vents when the defrost is selected. This has not been a serious issue yet as I have the heated windshield which works great. When defrost is selected the blower is blowing but air does not appear to come out anywhere when on defrost. I have watched the levers move and they appear to work fine with the solenoid activating them between the different settings. So, I noticed the pin below with grease on it (photo) and compared to the Rave illustration. It looks like I might have a part missing, circled in red. Can anyone familiar with this confirm my suspicion? I checked to see if it was laying around or dangling but nothing. Along with the pin on the moving part, to the right is a gold plated pin that looks like it does something as well. Maybe the two should be working together?

Side note - The Rave appears to show the mechanism with cable actuators which I presume is for D1's and maybe early D2's. Mine is an 04. Same but actuated by solenoids I guess.

Ah Ha! Found this image and yes, appears I have a part missing. AND it appears to attach to that gold pin. Now where to find it.... Calling all peoples with part Rovers.

Not sure this fixes my defrost issue but its my first suspect. If anyone had the glove box removed and can tell me what this does when the defrost button is pushed that would be great. I think the gold pin based on location might be the rod for the defrost flapper.
