Hedman long tube headers
I came across a great deal on a set of Hedman long tubes for the rover v8, and I couldn’t help myself and had to get them. Truck currently has a blown HG, but when pulling the heads I had to drop the motor a little bit to clear the fire wall (head studs) and noticed a crack all the way around the flange where the stock header connects to the y pipe on the drivers side, so why not right? $150 for long tubes vs ~$100 or so to have an exhaust shop re weld the y pipe.
I already have no cats, so that doesn’t matter me at all. I’ve seen Alex’s write up, and for sure going to use v bands. My question now is what else needs to be done? Can I just cut the stock y pipe and connect to headers directly too it and leave the rest of my exhaust untouched? Or will they not line up and I’ll have to get the exhaust shop to do some magic. I don’t have a welder so I can’t do this myself, but I am friends with the local shop and they have helped me out before, so I am not super worried about the cost of them doing it. I just want to know if that will be necessary, or if everything will play nice.
Also I’ve heard clearance is an issue for some people but not others, so i would love to hear from those that have them and hear how they fit. I don’t care if I have to massage them a bit, the headers already have a few dents in them from where the guy I’m getting them from presumably stuffed them somewhere they shouldn’t go. Any thoughts/advice on the subject would be appreciated.
