Any recommendations?. Discovery 2 with 2" lift, 265/75/16, no steel bumpers or rails
Also is that plastic side rail strong enough to support the truck?

I use a hi lift from time to time i think its the 48"version. The plastic side rails are not strong enough to support the truck how ever if you remove them the you can jack the truck up. Its a bit of work but it can be done. I've jacked up my rear end by removing the plastic, opening the rear door so the jack doesn't scratch the outside of the door and it works pretty well. Remember to always chock your tires.

 

I've got a 48" Torin Farm Jack on the way. Seems to get good reviews and it's the same design as a genuine hi-lift. I'm also going to get some Jeep hood mounts and mount it to my extra hood that I've got sprayed with underbody rubberized coating.

 

If you're going to get one without having any jacking points on your vehicle then I suggest you also get a Lift-Mate.

Hi-lift jacks are dangerous enough (about 40 years experience with them) without taking chances with a knock-off. If you do get one, get a Hi-Lift.

 

If you end up getting a hi-lift get it from harbor freight.

 

Gotta go with Tom on this. This style of jack are sketchy enough where I won't chance using some off brand. I'd consider going with Smittybilt but otherwise it's Hi-Lift brand.

 

I ended up ordering a Smittybuilt instead of the Torin because it was longer, cheaper, and got better reviews. We'll see how this goes in about a week, I'll post back with pictures.

 

I buy some stuff at harbor freight, but I'd do without before ever using one of their knock-offs.

 

I off-road several times a month in the summer and have seen people almost had their head taken off with a Hi Jack handle. They are pretty dangerous b/c they are tippy and when weighted the handle can spring up. I could see using it has a winch if needed but I would recommend a bottle jack or the X-Jack to raise a vehicle.

 

My Smittybuilt came in today, looks to be pretty nice and well constructed. Yes, they are dangerous at times if you use them incorrectly, but with a little patience and caution they are pretty much fine. The Smittybuilt looks plenty strong, but I've yet to use it. I'll probably give it a test this weekend.
