Default Hello, Im new....my Disco needs your help

first off hello to all, the name is Matthew.

after years of wanting a discovery, i finally bought one.

its a BC truck so, its in pretty good shape.

I continually get a misfire probmlem though.

i will get the codes tomarow. I have been told it could be wiring, or a stuck valve. it runs great, and periodicly 2-3 sec misfire appears on and off...then completely stops. it comes and goes quickly. usually on the highway, although the other night i drove for an hour on the highway without issue.

today i had the misfire issue on the highway, then the speedo stoped working and the misfire went away. the started working again and the misfire cam back. this is the first time this speedo thing has happened so i dont know if that was a coinsidence or related.

I would like to get an idea of whats happening before i take it anywhere for a mechanic to screw me.

any help would be much appreciated.

Matthew

oh and it has new plugs and the wires are in good cond.

Are the wires original? What brand are they? The spedo thing is weird not sure what would cause that beside a bad vehicle speed sensor. Also everyone suggests new wires because 95% of the time that is the issue. You could have wires that look brand new and still be bad.

Get the 4 digit fault code numbers and get back to us with them, otherwise all we are doing is guessing.

pull codes,,,

but i am betting its your "good condition" wires that are still original that need to be replaced

ok i scaned it, the codes are

p1316
p1313
p0307
p0000

I left the scaner pluged and i went for a drive. what i did notice is that the speed that the scanner was reading was way off. at times reading 180 kph when im doing 50kph.

i did some poking around on the net and i noticed that some guys with my similar issue had bad VSS.

what do you guys think?

You need a new VSS.
www.discoweb.org has a excellent write up in their tech section on how to replace it.
