when you move that transfer case lever to the left it locks the diff making it behave as any other 4x4 would. the reson for the diff is for the permanant 4WD to function on the street.

Looks like luggy tires. Don't judge the 4 wheel drive till you take it offroad. I thought I had a problem with mine till I buried it in soup, and it would go anywhere I wanted to go. Another way to test it.....chain her to a tree, and put it in 4 lo, and try to go. You will know real quick if it has a problem.
