Sometimes they just get old. I always replace a fuse once before moving to diagnose a short.

Do not spend too much money till you find out what ECU you have

Can you not turn off SAI in the ECU with one of the more sophisticated scan tools?

Acceleration a Tadd bit better but still not 100%. Any idea on how to tell the difference in the ECU units?

Can you list the manufacturer codes you're getting? If you're still getting codes related to the SAI system, it's because you have an SAI-type ECU. If you can register your vehicle as historic, you should be fine with that ECU, but you'll never be able to pass inspection with the check engine light on.

P0154 is a dead O2 sensor. They're always good to replace anyway. Get either Bosch, NGK, or Denso.

P0340 is still a camshaft sensor malfunction.

As for acceleration, I'm not sure what you're expecting, but you shouldn't expect much. Even with the 4.6L, it's still a 4600 pound vehicle with 217 horsepower. The engine is much better at making noise than speed.

It should still take several drive cycles to reconstruct proper adaptive values. A properly running 4.6 has plenty of acceleration.
