Exclamation Help!!!

sooo, I am looking towards buying a LandRover Disco 03'.......

I have been told by many that it breaks constantly and is VERY expensive to fix.... websites say it is one of the worst cars due to it's often break downs....
I love love love the car, BUT I am afraid I will regret buying one!

HELP?! any Disco 03' owners have advice?

thank you!

read all you can on here..then read some more. some '03s have a defective oil pump that will fail and burn up the engine...look around on here and you'll find more info about it. good luck.

Do what Nitetrain suggested. Research as much as you can. These vehicles are not a set and forget vehicle. They require constant attention. If you are diligent on maintenance and don't mind getting your hands dirty once in a while (or at least finding a good independent mechanic) then you shouldn't have a problem. One thing is for sure, there is nothing like driving a Land Rover, and it takes a specific type of person to appreciate them. If you can understand they have their little problems and can look past all of that, to realize what a great vehicle they really are. Then it is the vehicle for you.

Why an 03 and what are you planning to use it for? Have you ever owned a 4X4 before and how mechanical are you?
If you find a specific one, get the vinn. number and check with your local Rover Dealer's service dept. to see if it is on their hit list for possible bad engines.
By the way, what sort of prices have you seen?

I'm a girl, not very good with cars.... I just want the space inside the car, and I like the look. I have been looking at prices from 10,000 to 18,000.

Rovers are for two types of people, period.
1) Rich people who want a status symbol, and trade them in after the warranty runs out.
2) Enthusiasts who work on them themselves, or don't mind paying to fix them cause they love rovers.

All others will hate them and get rid of them after dumping more money than they want to into them. I don't mean to sound sexest but rovers are not for girls who want them cause they like how they look. If you are one of the coolest chicks who dig cars and work on them, then by all means, buy a rover, but I would not buy an 03. too much risk with the oil pump issues.

stay away from 2003 rovers... trust me i have one

the fact is the engine oil pump/vin issues will kill your wallet eventually and you would be well suited to look for a 2001-2002 and just swap the head lights from an 2003 over!!...

i REGRET buying my 2003 disco, i also regret spending $5500 for an engine rebuild thet never worked, i regret the mechanic setting the interior of my truck on fire!!!!

all aside... I LOVE THIS TRUCK...

LOL Nice

Yes stay away from the 03's unless it has a new engine installed with appropriate documentation.

With proper maintenance and a good indy mechanic they are fantastic vehicles!!

Good Luck!
